FastSpring Payment Processing

Kibot does not run its own checkout. Every order, one-off data package or recurring Data updates subscription, is processed by FastSpring, which acts as Merchant of Record (per the Faq). For buyers this means the payment receipt, the tax invoice, the subscription management page, and the rebilling notifications all come from FastSpring rather than from Kibot directly, while data delivery and support remain with Kibot company.

Order processing and delivery

After payment is successfully processed the maximum wait before data becomes available is 24 hours, and in most cases delivery as an internet download is immediate after Kibot receives the FastSpring confirmation. If no email arrives, Kibot recommends checking the spam or junk folder first, marking any found message as "Not Spam", and adding the kibot.com domain to the approved sender list. To avoid the inverse problem of outbound mail being filtered, first contact should always be made through the contact form rather than from a mail client.

Security and encryption

Order processing is described as 100% secure and is powered by FastSpring, which the FAQ characterises as a trusted global authority in electronic product distribution. All private information travels encrypted over the internet via a secure connection. FastSpring publishes its own buyer-facing explanation of how purchases are handled at https://fastspring.com/purchasing-through-fastspring/.

Payment methods

FastSpring accepts credit and debit cards, PayPal, Amazon Payments, bank wire transfers, checks, and certain real-time bank transfers. All major credit cards are supported including Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover, JCB, and UnionPay. For institutional buyers who need an invoice generated up-front (universities, research labs, corporate procurement), see how to order with a purchase order or wire transfer. The same payment types (PayPal, card, Amazon, wire, check, and cash) are also available for recurring subscriptions, with one important constraint discussed below: only card payments support automatic rebilling.

Invoicing

To generate an invoice instead of paying immediately, the buyer selects the products on Kibot's site (see Buy Data and Subscribe) and clicks "Continue", "Subscribe", or "Place Order", which redirects to the FastSpring secure checkout. On that page an "Invoice" button appears on the right side. If the "Securely save payment details..." checkbox is visible it must be unchecked, because saving payment details suppresses the "Invoice" and "Wire Transfer" options. A pop-up "Payment Information" window then collects contact information and a purchase order number, and FastSpring issues the invoice before the buyer settles by wire transfer or another standard method. The flow can be tested without entering real data.

Tax handling

Taxes added at checkout are imposed by the buyer's government, not by Kibot or FastSpring. Tax authorities in the buyer's country require digital service providers to collect VAT, GST, or sales tax on digital purchases, and FastSpring as Merchant of Record is legally obligated to collect and remit these taxes to the local tax authority. FastSpring automatically identifies the buyer's location and applies the rate mandated by that jurisdiction. The FAQ notes that more than 110 countries currently enforce digital tax collection, and that many governments tightened enforcement from 2026 onward, FastSpring has no discretion in whether to collect.

Subscription billing lifecycle

Subscriptions renew automatically every 30 days from the initial order date, not on calendar-month boundaries. When the first rebilling is due, customers who paid the original order with a credit or debit card receive an automatic FastSpring email reminding them of the upcoming charge. If the rebilling charge succeeds the service continues without interruption. Customers who chose wire transfer, check, or cash receive a payment notification in time for the next due date, and that invoice email contains all the relevant payment information. After successful payment, by card or by manual method, an invoice and payment confirmation arrive by email and the subscription continues.

Handling failed payments

If FastSpring's automatic attempt to charge the card fails, the customer receives an email explaining that the charge was not possible and that the subscription has therefore been cancelled. If a manual payment arrives after the due date, a follow-up email confirms that the subscription has been reactivated and that the product is again available. The reactivation date, the date payment actually arrived, becomes the new anchor for calculating future rebilling cycles, so a late payment effectively shifts the schedule rather than skipping a period.

Updating payment information

Storing card details with FastSpring is optional. A customer can choose not to save payment information and instead pay manually each cycle in response to the rebilling notification, though Kibot recommends saving the details to automate the process and prevent service interruptions. To update a stored card, the customer opens the most recent receipt email from FastSpring; every receipt, first purchase and all rebills, contains a secure link to a page where payment information for the subscription can be updated.

Cancelling a subscription

Cancellation is described as very simple and can be done at any time. Because all orders are handled by FastSpring, every purchase grants access to a protected area of FastSpring's site where subscription details can be viewed and the subscription cancelled directly. Any subscription notification email also contains a link to that page. Customers can alternatively contact Kibot directly to cancel or modify a subscription, but the FAQ asks for at least 48 hours' notice before the next billing date.

Order placement errors

Because FastSpring runs a risk-analysis algorithm on every transaction, an order can be rejected even when the card is valid, for example when the connecting country differs from the country of the card-issuing bank. The FAQ recommends avoiding proxy servers and any connection obfuscation, and using an internet connection straight from the ISP. Free anonymous email addresses such as ProtonMail are also flagged as risky; mailboxes from Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail, and similar services are reported to work. A rejected attempt may still trigger a pre-authorization, which is a temporary hold on funds, typically lasting around 5 days, sometimes 5 to 10 business days, before the bank releases them. The pre-authorization is not an actual charge, and the release timing is controlled by the bank rather than by Kibot or FastSpring.

Key Takeaways

  • FastSpring is Kibot's Merchant of Record: it owns checkout, invoices, taxes, and subscription billing.
  • Maximum delivery time after successful payment is 24 hours; most orders are immediate.
  • Invoicing requires unchecking "Securely save payment details" on the checkout page to expose the Invoice and Wire Transfer options.
  • Taxes are mandated by the buyer's jurisdiction and FastSpring has no discretion to waive them.
  • Subscriptions renew every 30 days from the original order date, not on calendar boundaries.
  • A failed automatic charge cancels the subscription; a late manual payment reactivates it on the date the payment arrived, which becomes the new rebill anchor.
  • Cancellation can be self-served from the FastSpring portal linked in any receipt or notification email; Kibot also accepts cancellation requests with at least 48 hours' notice.
  • Order rejections most often trace to FastSpring's risk algorithm flagging proxies, VPNs, anonymous email providers, or country mismatches between the connection and the card-issuing bank.
  • Data updates, what FastSpring is actually billing for on a recurring basis.
  • Kibot company, the merchant whose products FastSpring distributes.
  • Buy data, the catalog of one-off packages that route through FastSpring checkout.
  • Subscribe, the recurring subscription catalog whose rebill cycle is described above.
  • How to order, step-by-step purchase flow including invoice and wire-transfer options.
